Forever green®

Forever green® was implemented to promote sustainable forest management and environmental protection in Tembec’s forest operations. We developed the Guiding Principles as a series of policy statements representing important values that must be applied in all our forest activities.

The Guiding Principles are:

• Respect all laws and regulations
• Sustain forest productivity
• Maintain environmental integrity
• Ensure forest conservation and maintenance of biodiversity
• Sustain economic benefits
• Prepare appropriate management plans
• Develop relationships with First Nations
• Maintain positive community relations
• Ensure public, employees and worker safety
• Monitor, assess and maintain continual improvement
• Maintain environmental responsibility in fiber procurement

To bring our environmental commitments from the boardroom to the forest floor, Tembec’s Forest Resource Management Group was given the mandate to ensure that the focus remains on responsible stewardship of the forest resources by overseeing our environmental practices.

As a forest products company, we have not been satisfied over the years by simply replanting the trees we harvest; that was not enough. We have continually promoted the maintenance of biodiversity, which requires effective management of all the forest’s biological demands, including those of wildlife, waterways and soils. All potential impacts of our forest operations are considered at all times.
